Textual analysis (se7en)

Mise-en-scene
  • The images of people within the sequence can connote targets of some sort because their still images of their face so you can see the detail of that person but also the picture of the one where he marks the image or can such that the person has been murder.
  • The notes that he is make can suggest that this killer is clever and has been doing it a long time as there are many books about and he is writing with confidents suggesting that he has done this sort of stuff before.
Camera-
  • Close ups of all the equipment and images creates mystery and confusion to the viewer as they want to know why these different objects are being shown. do they have a significant part in the film
  • High angle shots of all the equipment and images could suggest that they are targets because of the fact that it shows weakness connoting that the person you are POVing thinks that he is more powerful
Editing
  • The use of the jump cuts creates tension and an unsettled atmosphere as it constantly keeps flicking between each frame making it seem fast pace and that the person has a mental state as he is only remembering certain things.
  • The effect of the text can connote a psychopath as the words are blurred and uneasy to see connoting that the killer has some sort of mental state and can't control his actions
Sound-
  • the incidental music throughout the opening credits builds tension and a gloomy atmosphere as this connotes that the killer emotionless and doesn't take anyone for granted meaning that anyone can be next.
