how a film markets and promotes itself

How a film markets and promotes itself

There are six main ways in which a film can promote itself to get the attention of the community and be able to sell itself to make the company revenue to pay off the costs and hopefully make profit for the next film or for personal use.

The first ways is through theatres. This can be done by making trailers or short ads for your product that will be displayed before a film that is either similar to your product or have the same target audience to get your product noticed by the public that are interested in this type of genre. They get the audience’s attention by using different scenes in your trailer that will get the best reaction out of them.

The second way is through TV and radio. This is a very populate way of advertising their product as I have found out that the Hollywood movie distributors spend about $4billion a year to buy paid advertising that is usually 30 seconds long, commercials or newspaper advertisements. But the best ways is the television as you will be to get your product to a wide audience and this will mean you will be able to get more people excited about your product.

The third way is through the internet. This is a new advertising strategy where the company makes websites that will support the news and the trailers for their product so that the public can be constantly up dated with the news about the product. Therefore the company will be keeping the hype up for the film. These digital film screeners have the benefit of letting you send individual copies of your film or a promo to the press, sales agents, distributors etc.

The fourth way is through Print. This is through the use of magazines and newspaper articles they use this is attract different segments of the public because there are always people who prefer reading to watching TV such as getting the attention of the older generation.

The fifth way is through merchandising. This is through co-branding or co-advertising through different products that the film company could sell such as toys/clothing. By doing this it’s like free advertising because people will be wearing or carrying your film name around everywhere. Also by having co-brands the company will be able to get the attention of more people as they will already have a larger market audience making it easier for you.

The sixth way is through promotional tour. This can be done by doing interviews or showing outtakes of the film.  By doing this you can be more persuasive if your interviews to make the people who think maybe into a yes but also by doing you will be able to get the most important information across to the public.
