Question 5
How did you attract/address your
audience?
Survey on reddit
at first
when we were getting to know who our audience would be we didn't really know so
we made a survey to help us identify who our audience would be-
so we
made a questionnaire that had questions such as
- what is your age?
- what do you expect to feel
like while watching a thriller film?
- what was your last thriller
film you watched?
- describe what they had used
in that films to portray horror?
So from
this survey we had gotten a few response from this survey and the majority were
people aged around 15-18 which was about the film rating we were going for
which was 15 so the film would suit them. also we had gotten a lot of
suggestions for making our film make them terrified, different and mysterious,
which we had done by using the dream effect and you the binary opposition to
make it less unconventional. However at the point that we had got our survey
back we had already thought of our film so we didn't think the last thriller
film was important as it was just a mix of different films that have a lot in
them. so by rounding our survey up we were able to identify that our audience
is young who are outgoing and want something different to happen in our film to
be more surprised.
Uses of gratifications
Blumler and Katz’s uses and gratification theory suggests that media users play an active role in choosing and using the media. Users take an active part in the communication process and are goal oriented in their media use. The theorist say that a media user seeks out a media source that best fulfills the needs of the user. Uses and gratifications assume that the user has alternate choices to satisfy their need.
Diversion- escape from everyday
problems and routine.
personal relationships- using the media for emotional and other interaction.
personal identity- finding yourself reflected in texts, learning behaviour and values from texts.
surveillance- information which could be useful for living.

Diversion- People who watch this type of film
will be people who wants to have a fright/ terror moment in their everyday
life. who like to see the unexpected events such as supernatural occurrence
that you will probably never see in real life. so I well help me to escape and
day dream about the film as when its playing the audience will be thinking
about what they will be doing or when they are in a boring environment re-live
that scene to what they would do to change the outcome of the films ending.
personal relationships- when people are watching this film they will have different emotions for the protagonist and the antagonist. This is because when someone watches a film that will have hatred for the antagonist whereas the audience with feel sympathy for the protagonist as they will relate to themselves and think if they have done anything can that happen to me to.
personal identity- the audience will feel portrayed to the protagonist as the character is a stereotypical teenagers which will represent them so by having the correct customers and language it will make the audience feel more relatable to the film because of the stereotypically view of the audience.
Surveillance-Makes the audience feel more cautious of where they are going on their own and who they are meeting up with. Causes them to stop and think whether they are putting themselves in danger.
Age (BBFC)
When It
came to age we did want to restrict our film to the older generation as we felt
like our film connected more with teenagers so this is why we have gone with
the 15 age rating. so by having this we have had to restrict certain things in
our film so that it will be classified as 15 which is means that we will be
able to have strong violence which we have with the sound of the violence
however not sadistic violence so showing gore, etc which we haven't as it is a
thriller which means that we let the audience imagine what has just happened to
confuse or get the audience involved more in the film. also why we have chosen
to go with teenagers is the fact that they are growing up and have crazy ideas
so with this in mind they have the fantasies of this scenes happening or
becoming real as our film is based off a everyday normal teenager, who is doing
something completely harmless, however something terrible happens to them which
I feel like every teenager has that thought in the back of there mind.
Why knowing your
target market is important
Why knowing your target market is important is
so that you know the best way in which you can market your product to them. so
for example by using the social media marketing this will attract young people
instead of older people whereas a newspaper ad will attract the older
generation instead of the younger generation. so with knowing your market you
will be able to easily identify the best way in which you will get your film
across to your audience which will help to increase awareness of the film which
will overall lead to more sales. so with the correct market research and
analysis you will be able to get the awareness that you need to make your
overall product a success.
Question 4
Who would be the audience for your
media product?
Gender
The
gender of our film is very hard to say because as we have created a horror
thriller this applies to a niche audience, altogether resulting in having a
small market of females and males. however we when do make this film it will
result in these audiences become dedicated to the film. we have done this by
using the theory binary opposition which has been done in our film where the
protagonist is a male and the antagonist if a female which is un stereotypical
which will help to become a mix of both genders to make them want to see what
the change is as it won't be the same outcome at the end.

Market
We
believe that our film will be a more niche market. this is because we are a
starting up company so this will mean that the only real people who will know
about our film will be mainly people in the UK so this will main that we will
be aiming at a niche market. the audience will also have to have a taste in
horror/mystery thrillers which is a more niche market due to fear and phobias
in our film which will mean that our film will put off allot of people.
class
Our film
will be aiming at more lower and middle class audience this is due to the
location, plot and the mise-en-scene that we are using in our film.
so for
the location we will be doing the filming in a small forest, so we can see this
film being aimed at lower or middle class as they tend to be in more rural
areas so they will consist of more woodland areas whereas upper class is in
more urban areas so in the cities for example.
also the
clothing that we are using is very causal and informal so it wouldn't suit
someone who is more upper class and sophisticated as they would wear more
formal clothing.
finally
the mise-en-scene this is because people who are upper classed associate the
lower classes as being rough and violent so we used the stereotypical view and
have using guns and knifes to represent the violence.
